we sat down with Robin Martinez, owner of Flowers of Kingwood!
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Flowers of Kingwood has been serving our community since 1987! We specialize in fresh floral arrangements and 
green
plants; delivered daily for all occasions. We also have a gift shop
with that perfect unique gift for yourself or someone special.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I
originally worked for my parents’ John & Pat Hoggard in their
greenhouse, florist, landscaping company; Black Cat Junk-tion. I've
driven tractors loading mulch, flocked Christmas Trees, cleaned
greenhouses and quality checked lawn maintenance crews. My parents gave
me a Christmas gift for classes at Frankie Shelton School of Floral
Design and membership to Texas State Florist Association. They opened
Flowers of Kingwood in 1984, and I purchased this 
company from them in 1987. When they decided to retire, I purchased Flowers of Kingwood,Inc.
Tell
us a couple of things you are proud of about your business. What are
you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Flowers
of Kingwood is proud of our deep roots in Kingwood, Humble, Porter and
New Caney. We are known for our exceptional customer service and
commitment to quality fresh flowers and plants with a keen eye to design
and 
customer satisfaction.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
I've
worked all parts of this business from design to delivery. I've created
floral designs for grieving parents with funeral arrangements and happy
couples with celebrations of marriage. I have a picture of a Bride that
I leave up so that her mother with Alzheimer's can still recognize her
as daughter wore Mother's dress in the ceremony. What is my favorite
part of running the business? Very hard to pinpoint just one thing. I
love the people that work with me from my staff to Wholesale Partners as
well as our customers. Kingwood, especially in the beginning years, was
very mobile.
Families moved in and out in about a 4-year cycle. We had to learn to always market and to stay current and relevant
and visible in the community; we're continually trying to stay relevant
to our customers and when people think of flowers; we want them to
think of Flowers of Kingwood!
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Our
ideal customer loves fresh flowers and their natural beauty. Flowers
breing joy or comfort in many of life's situations. We have assisted
customers from around the world and right next door with exceptional
service and quality products. Our online website brings the world to our
door and our network with other professional florists allows us to make
sure flowers can be delivered worldwide.
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I've served on several Board positions over the years. NCISD
Education Foundation, Family Time Crisis and Counseling Center are a
few. Texas State Florist Association Education and Grading committee.
President for multiply terms for Teleflora South Texas Unit as well as
Allied Florists of Houston President. I have been awarded the
prestigious Buddy Benz Award of Excellence in 2013. We have received
BBB Awards for Excellence multiply times. as well as 2009 Awards for
Excellence Pinnacle Winner. Houston Business Journal recognized Flowers
of Kingwood as 2006 Fastest Growing Woman-Owned business and we're
still GROWING!
