Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
At
Humble Skate Center, we provide a fun, family-friendly environment
where people of all ages can enjoy roller skating, birthday parties,
private events, fundraisers, skate lessons, and competitive speed
skating. We have proudly
served
Humble and surrounding communities since 1977 and remain the original
family-owned and operated rink today. For nearly 50 years, we've been
helping families create memories on wheels!
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
Our
family is originally from Louisiana. My father's brother-in-law started
investing in roller-skating rinks in the early '70s, and soon after,
several different family members as well as my Parents took the chance
to start their own business. At one point we had 5 skating rinks in the
Houston area and one in our hometown in Louisiana. Roller skating has
always brought people together. Our family saw the need for a safe,
affordable place where families, friends, schools, churches, and
community groups could gather and have fun. Over the years, Humble Skate
Center has evolved from a local skating rink into a community hub where
people celebrate birthdays, learn new skills, and even pursue
competitive skating at the national and international
levels.
Tell us a few things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We're
proud of our longevity, 50 years is a LONG time, our family atmosphere,
and the impact we've had on generations of local families. Many of our
current customers first skated here as children and now bring their own
kids and grandkids, it’s so fun to watch them come and say “oh I
remember this snack bar, or you still have this or that. I can’t believe
how much it makes me feel like I’m a kid again.”
One
of our biggest points of pride is our competitive speed skating
program, the Texas Speed Team. Our athletes train year-round and compete
at regional and national events. Several team members have earned
opportunities to compete on some of the sport's biggest stages, one is a
current member of Team USA and skated at World Championships in China
last September. It was an amazing opportunity and a very proud moment
for Humble Skate 
Center.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
Seeing
families have fun together and watching young skaters grow in
confidence is incredibly rewarding. Whether it's a child learning to
skate for the first time or a speed skater reaching their competitive
goals, being part of those milestones never gets old.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
We
truly serve everyone—from young children attending their first skating
party to adults rediscovering skating after many years away. We work
especially well with families, schools, day cares, churches, youth
organizations, and anyone looking for a fun, active alternative to
screen time. We also welcome aspiring athletes who want to join our
speed skating program and develop their skills in a supportive
environment.
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
As
a family-owned business, we've dedicated our lives to creating a
welcoming place where people can have fun, stay active, and build
community. Our passion for skating and youth development has helped us
remain a local staple for nearly five decades. We believe in treating
our customers like family and giving back to the community that has
supported us for so many years.
Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We
host public skating sessions throughout the week, birthday parties,
school events, fundraisers, and special themed skate nights. For summer
we are open 6 days a week and have daily specials. Our new Disney 10
& under session is on Fridays from 1:30–3:30 p.m. The Family Sunday
special: $60.00 for four people, which includes pizza and a pitcher of
drinks (must mention at the door). Host a spirit night for your school
or team and you’ll have the opportunity to earn 50% of the door sales
towards their goal.
We appreciate community support
through our 501(c)(3), a nonprofit called Humble Texas Speedskating.
All funds go directly to the kids, and the company name is shown on
T-shirts and marketing items. Anyone can donate, not just a business,
and as a nonprofit, all monies are tax deductible. This support helps
cover travel, coaching, equipment, and competition expenses to help
these dedicated young athletes pursue their dreams!
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Humble Skate Center is a place where you can disconnect from the digital world, so you can connect with your family
and
friends. Whether you're planning a birthday party, looking for a fun
family outing, or interested in competitive skating, we welcome everyone
through our doors. And while we are almost 50 years old and you may see
things you saw 30 years ago, we keep our rink and skate center
well-kept with fresh paint, carpets and newly redone rink floors and
more, all while keeping the nostalgic vibe.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We
plan to continue expanding our programs, expand our speed skating team,
and create even more opportunities for young athletes to compete at all
levels,
including
elite. We’d love to strengthen our community partnerships, host more
special events, and introduce even more families to the lifelong
benefits of roller skating. So if you would like to expand your

As
we approach our 50th anniversary, we are counting our blessings and
realizing how grateful we are for every person who has walked through
our doors the last 50 years. Without you, we would not be the community
staple that we’ve become! Our goal is to continue serving the community
and inspire the next generation of recreational and competitive skaters.
