This week in our "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down with Dave Fields, owner of Dave Fields Residential A/C and Heating.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
I am an HVAC contractor, Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning. I own Dave Fields Residential AC and Heating, LLC. We offer Air conditioning and heating repair and replacement on most models, Ductwork repair, rework, and or replacement. In addition, we offer ventilation installations. Such as Kitchen exhaust, bathroom ventilation, and attic ventilation. We can accommodate A/C and Heating Ventilation design for custom builds.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I got into this kind of work completely by chance, I was coming to the end of a temporary assignment, and a friend asked me if I would take a job helping him with some A/C work. It was steady work, at least through the summer, I said why not. That was 25 years ago.

After about a year he left the industry completely, and I took his position running the company.
After five years, while taking every training course that I could squeeze in. I realized I had a passion for the industry and wanted to be my own boss. I took the state exams, passed and proudly opened Dave Fields Residential AC and Heating, LLC on April 1st, 2005, 20 yrs ago.

Tell us a couple of things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I pride myself on honesty, and attention to detail. I will give the homeowner as many options to get the most bang for their buck. It’s important to me to educate homeowners as well so they know how to maintain their equipment to prevent further issues.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
My favorite part of running a service company is my customer relationships, most of my customers become friends. I enjoy visiting with them a couple of times a year, to catch up. They ask about my wife Jackie, and our children. I get caught up with what’s going on in their lives as well.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
My ideal customer is anybody who needs A/C or Heat work [fixed or replaced] from the north side of beltway 8, to Shepard Tx, and from the east side of Hwy 45 to FM1960. Most of my work has always seemed to be focused mostly in the Humble/Kingwood area.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I personally answer or return every call. No secretary, No answering service. I do this from approximately 6am to 8pm, 7days a week, even when vacationing, or camping with my family. I want every customer to know that they have been heard, and that I know they need help. If I leave town, I always have a backup contractor who can take good care of my customers in an emergency.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
Right now, for a LIMITED time I am offering 48 months at 0.0% interest, also I recently secured an agreement with Protection Plus to apply a ten-year labor warranty to new system installations.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business? How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
I personally run ALL service and or repair calls, I am currently training My son David Cody Fields In hopes to continue to grow our veteran owned and operated family business so you will be seeing more than one Dave Field Residential AC and Heating truck in your neighborhood.
