Interview with Daniel and Tina Gonzalez, Owners of Granny's Tamales - New Caney

As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Daniel and Tina Gonzalez, owners of Granny's Tamales

What does your business offer and how long have you been around?

We offer delicious, gourmet, homemade tamales, salsa, rice, beans, and pastries. We have been in business for

over 18 years now.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
We decided to open this business with an old family recipe for Tamales. My husband is an entrepreneur and always wanted to open a restaurant. God opened the door for us and we continue to serve the community with tamales.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business.

1. Great family recipe and everyone loves our tamales

What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Our famous tamales. We have the best tamales in Houston and only sell tamales, no other main dish, like tacos, etc.

What is your favorite part of running this business?

The customers that we meet, the customers we serve and making a great product that people enjoy.

Who is your target market or ideal customer/client?
We do not have one, we want to feed EVERYBODY our tamales!

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner?
We have been married over 40 years. We have 3 children and 12 grandchildren. We strive to put God first in everything we do. Our motto is “Putting God first, with hard work, creates success.”

What is your background?
I was in Medical Sales and my husband was a superintendent of a remodeling company.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We have 4 locations, 2 in Humble, 1 in Spring, and our fourth and

newest location in New Caney in The Food Zone Grand Texas. We attend a multitude of local Farmers Markets each week, and we offer shipping across the country.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We use a family recipe to create our 13 gourmet tamale options, you will never get another tamale like Granny’s Tamales. Our recipe has been the foundation of our business for over 20 years and has proven to be a favorite for all.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?

We have grown each and every year. We project that we will continue to grow because of God and our wonderful customers and word of mouth. We incorporate new ideas into our business plan and with God we will continue to operate and bless our customers.
