As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down this week with Shane Harper, owner of Porter Insurance Agency.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
We offer a full line of insurance products such as Auto, Home, and Commercial insurance. We have been in business for 42 years.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started? Tony Harper, my father, started this Agency in 1979. I decided to get in the insurance business after my first career lost attraction for me. I started my own Agency with a Captive Carrier, and I was with that company for 16 years. My father decided to retire, so I bought him out of the business.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition? I am very proud of the excellent service my staff provides our customers. In fact, our customer service is what separates us from the competition. We are known for friendly service and getting the insurance our customer needs at the right price.
What is your favorite part of running this business? Helping our customers save money on their insurance. I always say, “If you don’t compare, don’t complain!”.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best? Our ideal customer is someone who doesn’t want
to pay too much for their insurance. We service everyone equally. If you are a customer of ours, you get first class service!
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background? I have been in the insurance business for 22 years. I started my first insurance agency in January 1999. Therefore, I have been around and know a few things.
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business? We are local and available for you! We love to save our local customers money on their insurance premiums!
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years? As long as people like to save money on their insurance premiums, I expect to continue to grow as more and more people move into our area.
