Have to brag on my DD!
She has worked for the school district almost 20 years. She started as a para in special ed. She loved doing that, but it could be physically demanding, so a few years ago, she took a position in the front office. As she became familiar with that part of the school operation, she learned that the bookkeeper was close to retirement. She's always been good with numbers, so she began working on an associate degree to qualify for that position. When the time came, she got it and was happy. She thought she would do that till she retired. After doing that for about a year, she was contacted by the admin office about a higher level position. She told them she felt she didn't have enough experience, but they insisted that she apply. So she moved into that position, and thought she would be there till she retired. Her first year went well till that spring. A co-worker was diagnosed with advanced cancer and died suddenly. It was such a shock! It was late in the school year, so they didn't fill the position immediately, and everyone worked together to get the work done. When the job was about to be posted, DD realized she was doing the work already, and it was a higher paying position. So at age 50, she began pursuing a bachelor's degree that would qualify her for the job. Since she was actively working toward the degree and had the experience, she got the job! So for the past year, she has worked really hard! She now has her degree, and is loving her job! Now she thinks she'll be there till she's eligible to retire. We'll see...

@Cbear :
Now she's celebrating. She didn't want to walk im the ceremony, so her DH took her on a trip. We gave her some cash. Co-workers are taking her to lunch today.
