As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses"
series, this week we sat down with Dr. Cardenas, owner and Chief Medical Officer of East Montgomery County Animal Hospital.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer and how long have you been around?
East
Montgomery Animal Hospital has been a part of the community since
2015. Dr. Cardenas and the EMCAH Team provide complete pet health care
services including vaccines, dental care, exams, internal medicine and
surgery for your companion animal.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?Dr.
Cardenas loves veterinary medicine. She has worked in small animal
medicine, from day practice to emergency care since 2001. She worked
for a local practice and the spent years doing relief work traveling
from various practices in the Houston area. Years of hoping and
planning came together when she finally found the right opportunity and
location to plant her pet practice in the vibrant part of "three
corners" Porter, New Caney and Conroe. This spot is ideal for providing
this up-and-coming area with top-notch animal care, products and
services.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition? They
are proud to be a woman-owned, family business. Dr. Cardenas is
humbled by the trust she's earned in the community and the frequent
testimonials from satisfied customers. Pet owners rave about the love
and care they are their pets receive. This is supported by the smiling
staff that "treats pets like their own", the variety of payment
options, flexibility in seeing patients and the caring and respectful
approach to ethical care. They make sure to keep the client's best
interest in mind. Dr. Cardenas employs low-stress pet handling and
gives treats liberally, so bring your pets
hungry!
What is your favorite part of running this business?
Susan's
heart is all about the animals and their people. Carefully selected
staff help promote their mission of quality animal care. She hires the
best smiling faces, like Office Manager Marisa who wears many hats.
Marisa's favorite part of working at East Montgomery Animal Hospital is
that she gets to have a cat in her office while juggling hiring,
inventory, HR, maintenance, pharmacy or reception and other day to day
aspects of guiding a busy practice.
Who is your target market or ideal customer/client?
People
who care about their pets and appreciate that we know those pets are an
important part of their family are encouraged to schedule an
appointment.
Tell us something about yourself as the business owner. What is your background?
This veterinarian by day, mother of three, has been married to her husband Luis for 30 years. Two dogs and a cat
round
out their family. A graduate of Texas A&M, she also enjoys
theater, dinners with friends, family time and reading at the beach.
Being a veterinarian allows her days to be filled with variety, quality
interactions, value in the community and plenty of purrs, licks and
wagging tails from four-legged friends.
