Confused about the New Tax Law? Liberty Tax Hosts Free Tax Talks - New Caney

Liberty Tax, located at 1309 Kingwood Drive, will host free Tax Talks* this Fall to help taxpayers better understand the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and how it will affect their income tax returns. A recent survey by Liberty Tax suggests that many would benefit from a seminar on the new tax law, as many individuals are unaware of its impact to their tax return.

In the survey** of about 1,000 taxpayers, Liberty Tax found that:

• Nearly 68 percent could not identify that standard deduction has nearly doubled under TCJA, an issue widely discussed after President Trump signed the new tax law;
• 84 percent could not identify that the personal exemption has been eliminated under TCJA, a change that will affect taxpayers with qualified dependents;
• 66 percent did not know that individual tax breaks in TCJA end at the close of 2025, and more than 23 percent thought the tax cuts were permanent.

Tax Talks are free, informative sessions led by the tax professionals at Liberty Tax. They break down the tax information in a way that audience members can understand. They also provide taxpayers with answers to some of their tax questions.
