Here in RF we've always had to send a check through the mail or make a personal stop at the RF-CMUD office to pay the water bill. This month, included with the newly-formatted water bill was an option to pay the bill online at the CMUD's new website. I thought this was a really good move, even if a really overdue one. But, in the process of paying I learned that I'll get a $1.50 additional charge (penalty?) for paying via e-check ($3.00 if I pay via debit/credit). Shameful. I'll continue using Ally billpay, boycotting the CMUD's site. I hope other RF residents also refuse the additional charge. Texas tried an additional charge with online auto registration renewals. Didn't work. Today you get a $1 deduct for renewing online. The RF-CMUD should learn something.

I usually pay online even with fees, but I hate it. I get a credit card fee, but an echeck should be saving them money

otto : New Caney MUD also started a new online payment system about a year or so, but they also charge a fee. Not as much as RF but still. I used to send checks in the mail but there are 2 reasons I stopped. The first one is we switched banks and haven't gotten checks with them. The other reason is that one month last year, my payment got delayed at the post office for 2 weeks (yeah, from New Caney to New Caney 🙄) and I got charged late payment fee. They don't care when the payment is postmarked but only when they receive it. That's so stupid! 🤬 So now I just pay online, even though I have to pay $1-2 to use their system 🙄.
garfieldgurl : I bank with on-line bank Ally. They have a billpay option. I fill out the request, and they mail the check (and they pay the postage! Yay). There's no fee for that service, so I'll just continue using that. I sent a "shame on you" letter to the local MUD, but don't expect to hear back from them.

My mom also has an account with Ally. I contacted them too asking for clarification of those fees because one one page it didn't have the fee and it did in the next page. But the webpage was new so they still had glitches to take care of. Now, the online paying site has an option to agree or not to that fee, and I always wonder what would happen if I say no 😆. Why have that option if they're going to charge the customers either way 🙄 « Back to Chat
