Constable Hayden’s Office routinely takes part in undercover operations, one of which occurred last Wednesday (3/14/18) during Spring Break. Spring Break is a time when youth are out of school, many of which are home alone while parents and care takers are still at work or away from the residence. And some kids sometimes decide to make bad choices and attempt to purchase alcohol and tobacco even though they are not of age.
During the operation on March 14th, over 50 businesses in the Montgomery County Precinct 4 area were checked for compliance regarding the sale of alcohol and/or cigarettes to minors. 48 local business’s actually declined the sale of alcohol and/or tobacco to minors, however several did not.
The investigation lead to 4 persons (one being a 17 year old) arrested for selling alcohol to minors; 2 of which were also cited for selling tobacco to minors. At 2 other locations, 2 persons were cited for selling tobacco to minors.
Constable Hayden, though happy with the results of the undercover operation, would have preferred to have 100% compliance. Constable Hayden has always taken a stance that protects the youth of East Montgomery County and will continue to do so.
