Sad pet story, but happy ending!
This is a sad story about a friend, but it now has a happy ending. I've never asked this friend's age, but I would guess maybe mid-60-ish. She's a retired teacher and lives alone in a nice, huge house. Her DH passed about 6 years ago, and her 2 daughters live out of state. She has no grandkids, and her parents are deceased. Her companions have been a Poodle that died about 2 years ago, and an aged house cat that she had to put down recently. She decided last week that she wanted a kitten. I wasn't with her, so I only know what she told me. She went to a well known group to adopt and went through the process only to be told that she wasn't eligible because of her age. She was heartbroken! Maybe that's their policy, but I don't understand why. A senior who needs the companionship of a pet should be a prime candidate to give a homeless animal a loving home. One of her neighbors went with her today to BARC, and she came home with an adorable kitty! She's happy now.
