Porter Man Arrested in Connection With Fatal Hit-and-Run on U.S. Highway 59

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has identified and arrested a Porter man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred earlier this week along U.S. Highway 59.
According to officials, 35-year-old Jeremy Michael Buckner was arrested following an investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
On May 7, 2026, detectives and crime scene investigators were requested by the Splendora Police Department to investigate a deceased male found alongside U.S. Highway 59. The victim was later identified as Gary Belvin. Investigators determined that Belvin had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene.
Authorities said Major Crimes Detectives worked continuously to gather evidence, identify the suspect, and locate Buckner, leading to his arrest.
Buckner is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail and has been charged with Collision Involving Injury or Death, a second-degree felony.
