Harris County Precinct 2 Mourns the Loss of Deputy Coddou

Statement from Commissioner Adrian Garcia:

"I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Deputy Investigator John H. Coddou, a 20-year law enforcement veteran. This morning, Deputy Coddou was assisting at a crash scene where he was hit and killed in the line of duty. As a former Sheriff, I will always remember days like today as the toughest. For me, it was always difficult to lose one of my own and then give the news to the family. I don't wish that on anyone, and I know how difficult this is for Sheriff Gonzalez, the entire HCSO team, and the deputy's family. My heart aches for this loss, and we fully support the family during this difficult time."

Every time I hear of a LEO's death, my heart aches for the family. I always think of a long-time friend whose kids went to school with my kids. Her oldest became a DPS officer right out of college. That was probably 25 years ago, and she was so proud! But it's a different world today. She prays every day that he comes home to his family at night. It When he chose that profession, it didn't seem quite as dangerous as it does now.

@Sweetie :
It's encouraging to know that young people are committing to law enforcement careers. I just can't imagine how hard it is for the families.

@Bloom : I don't know how they do it either. I know they say it's a calling. It's just a terrible time. People don't value life anymore.
