Meet Ivy! The Adorable Shelter Dog Looking for a Home
Ivy is one of the shelter’s long-term girls, who has been with the shelter for 278 days! It’s hard to understand why, because she is the coolest!
Ivy went to a temporary foster home a couple of times with Volunteer Laura. Here are a few things she has learned about Ivy:
"Our family took home sweet Ivy for a week to give her a break from the shelter. Ivy is an incredibly sweet and loving medium-energy pup. Ivy found herself in a home with 9 other dogs ranging from a 7 lb. Chihuahua to an 85 lb. pitbull and everything in-between (7 permanent dogs and 2 other foster dogs). “
“We were frankly heartbroken to be giving Ivy back at the end of the week and we promised to keep trying to help her find her permanent home. Ivy was going outside to potty with the other dogs regularly and by the end of her stay there were no accidents. She learned to lounge around like the other dogs. She learned the joys of cuddling in the bed and loved getting affection. “
“Ivy is outgoing and confident. She got along with all our dogs, even the annoying chihuahua and another smaller dog that like to start things with her. She also did extremely well with a very reactive female Labrador Retriever. She was very slow to react at all and put up with all of them. We did slow introductions (because I have some difficult dogs, not because of Ivy) but she was great with everyone and by the second day she was running around with the whole pack. “
“She was well behaved with all the dogs, small and large, and particularly loved playing with one of our pugs who is 1.5 years old. Ivy LOVES toys. She needs to have lots of sturdy toys she can pick up and carry around. She loves to play fetch or tug of war. She is easily redirected to toys from other things she is not supposed to have. Ivy is very smart and very food motivated. She now understands “no”, “treat”, “sit” “down” and “out”. “
“Ivy was perfect in the crate (she was not in there too much but enough for me to confidently say she is good in her crate). She doesn’t complain in her crate and waits to be let out."
“Hope you consider coming by the shelter and taking Ivy home - either to adopt or foster, as this girl has spent long enough at the shelter. Ivy was friendly to everyone who came to our house (and we had lots of visitors over the week) and just loved any and all attention. I have a two-year-old granddaughter and she was gentle and sweet to her. I also had some young teenagers run her around and she loved it.”
