Upcoming Road Closure: Friday, September 16 through Monday, Septmeber 19th

Upcoming Road Closure, plan accordingly.

From 9 p.m. on Friday, September 16th through 5 a.m. Monday, September 19th, Loop 494 will be CLOSED between FM 1485 E. (Where it crosses the railroad tracks) and FM 1485 (near Fish Tales restaurant) in New Caney.
This temporary closure for repair is part of a Texas Department of Transportation project. Please contact TxDOT with any questions or concerns.

@TownHubAdmin : Thank you!!! I drive that regularly. Was home last night and tonight so maybe it's signed now, but there sure weren't advance warning signs up about it earlier in the week. Hopefully 494 still accesses 1485 E when approaching from the south; otherwise back to the Roman Forest detour...

I know people having an event out that way this weekend with visitors who won't know the detours - will give them the heads-up.

@otto : I haven't looked recently, but last I saw (many months ago) they didn't have clear plans to rebuild. The projection was something like 2024 and that seemed pretty made up.

@WayneHavens : I just did Roman Forest, same as when all of 1485 east was super screwed up with construction. At least there's 99 now to also take some of the traffic away from your area, for those who don't mind the toll.

Had you noticed any signage in the area the day or two in advance?

@jjjj : Even if the northbound 1485/Loop 494 interchange is closed, you should still be able to get there by turning right onto Johnson Road, cross the tracks and take an immediate left onto Lodge Road, and that'll take you up to 1485.

@otto : Oh right; I totally forgot about that - thanks! I've used that little side access to dodge a stopped train before. And I was also mistaking it as being this weekend. Double whoops...

They do have an electronic sign up on 1485 E westbound prior to Roberts Road and 494 so they do get some early warning points after all.

@jjjj : Couldn't you use Roberts Road as a detour? Then you wouldn't have to go up to Roman Forest! Roberts Rd is the one that the MUD District and the county barn is on.

Couldn't you use Roberts Road as a detour? Then you wouldn't have to go up to Roman Forest!

@Kacey82 : In theory, yes, but if I'm on the highway anyway to bypass the 494/1485 intersection to get to Roberts Road, I'd just carry on to Roman Forest anyway. The backup at the unfortunate stops at 1485/99 is often enough to make Roman Forest the fastest route for more easterly locations. (With the construction done, some days its a tossup, but often the slightly longer route is more efficient.

Anyway, I'm curious to see what they're doing.

@jjjj : It's been a while since I've been to Roman Forest. I never knew there was a way to get to 1485 from Roman Forest???? I've lived here many, many years and didn't know that.
