HOV/HOT Lanes to Open Weekends for Summer Pilot Program

The Express Lanes that help you avoid traffic on weekdays will soon be open seven days a week as part of a regional pilot mobility program approved by METRO's Board of Directors.

HOV/HOT (Express) Lanes managed by METRO will be open on weekends beginning Saturday 7/2/22 through Monday 9/5/22. This includes the Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays. Weekend and holiday operations will follow the same schedule, occupancy requirements and tolls as weekdays.

Laws of the Lanes:
Carpools, vanpools and motorcyclists ride for free.
Solo drivers have the option of paying a toll to use the lanes.
Trailer towing is prohibited.
No trucks with more than two axles or a gross weight capacity of one ton or greater.
No bicycles (motorcycles permitted).
No pedestrians.

@Carol888 : No not really. I go occasionally to Conroe but I go out towards 1314. I try to stay out of that Houston area And the highway 59 towards Houston

Interesting. I'm always hesitant to hop on because I don't drive into the city often enough to know where any of the limited access lanes have exits, and never want to risk missing a turn.

@jjjj : I would think you'd have to travel those HOV lanes regularly to even understand them. And I'm certainly not one of them that travels on HOV

@jjjj : We did that once when we first moved here and were freaking out thinking we were trapped and wouldn't be able to take our exit. But all was well. My hubs actually takes it on his way home from work. It definitely costs more money but he doesn't usually gets too stuck in traffic.

@garfieldgurl : Glad it worked out! My other initial concern (back in the earlier days before one could pay as an alternative) was I wasn't positive if "2+" meant two or more, or more than two. While I was pretty sure it was the former, still seemed too ambiguous for comfort when being overly suspicious of the access in general. Emoticon

Anyway, the time vs money tradeoff can definitely make sense; good it works well for your husband. Now that the websites should be updated, I need to check into the exact pricing on the bit of new 99 that would come in useful for me to better weigh that tradeoff when things are traffic-y.

@jjjj : I used to get confused by the 2+ as well 😅.

If you go on Google maps and get the directions from and to, you can see the cost of tolls. I think that's new because I never saw that until a few days ago. There's also a website called tollguru that's also pretty good. But the Google Maps thing is even easier.
