The EMCID Board of Directors has announced a proposed 200,000 square foot conference and events center which will be located in Valley Ranch Town Center. The new center will feature meeting space large enough to hold major corporate events, trade shows, local and regional youth sporting events, consumer shows, galas, wedding receptions, proms and other private events.

Construction is projected to begin in late 2022 and the center plans to open mid-2024. The cost of the facility, site preparation, and furniture, fixtures and equipment is estimated to be approximately $90 million plus an additional parking structure projected at about $18 million. The project will be supported through sales tax revenue bonds.

I wish they'd put a hospital up that way. Methodist would be perfect.

@Weathergirl5 : It's really crazy how fast they are building around here. I hope they manage construction debris and water runoff properly but based on what happened with Imelda, I think there may be another scare in this area with another one of those tropical storms. People said they didn't flood with Harvey but did with Imelda because of the construction of the 99 freeway.

@garfieldgurl : I totally agree with you. We didn't flood with Harvey but almost flooded with Imelda. We would have flooded with Imelda if my dad and I had not been outside for three hours during the pounding rain digging a trench in the backyard to find all the water away from our house. I really hope they are taking all of that into consideration when they build up there. I still really wish they would put another big hospital out here. We only have Kingwood hospital and Memorial Hermann Northeast. We've had the same hospitals for 40 years but our population has grown tremendously during that time.

@Weathergirl5 : Woah! How scary! During Imelda, the water got about 3 feet from our back porch.

@garfieldgurl : I firmly believe if my dad and I had not been out there digging a trench for three hours during all that pounding rain with Imelda we would've taken on water in the house. That's the highest the waters ever been.
