Proposed School Zone Changes

Loading Image...

New Caney ISD is among the fastest growing school districts in Texas. Student enrollment growth at times necessitates changes to school zones to balance school enrollments and maintain high-quality learning environments for students. At the January 2021 regular meeting, the Board of Trustees will consider proposed changes to middle school and high school zones in advance of the opening of the new Keefer Crossing Middle School for the 2021-22 school year and Comprehensive High School #3 for the 2022-23 school year.

Middle School Zone Proposal

The proposed change to middle school zones beginning with the 2021-22 school year would impact 6th grade students currently attending New Caney Middle School and some 5th grade students currently attending Oakley Elementary School. Current middle school zones and proposed zones can be viewed on the maps below.

Student Impact

Most students attending New Caney Middle School who are in the 6th grade during the current school year (2020-2021) would remain at New Caney Middle School for their 7th and 8th grade years. However, beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, these 6th grade students would be zoned to attend Porter High School.

Approximately 20% of students attending New Caney Middle School who are in the 6th grade during the current school year (2020-2021) would be rezoned to the new Keefer Crossing Middle School beginning with the 2021-2022 school year and will be zoned to attend New Caney High School. Students whose zone change moved them to Keefer Crossing Middle School would be notified by letter early in the spring semester. If students in this group wish to remain at New Caney Middle School and attend Porter High School, they would have to complete the transfer process as they would be living outside of the new New Caney Middle School and Porter High School zones. Transfer students would also have to provide their own transportation. Transfers will be considered on a case-by-case basis. View the list of streets in the area impacting these students by the zone change proposal.

Students attending New Caney Middle School who are in 7th grade during the current school year (2020-2021) would remain at New Caney Middle School for 8th grade and would be zoned to attend New Caney High School. There is no zone change for these students.

Students attending New Caney Middle School who are in the 8th grade during the current school year (2020-2021) would be zoned to attend New Caney High School. There is no zone change for these students.

Some students attending Oakley Elementary School who are in the 5th grade during the current school year (2020-2021) would be rezoned to attend Keefer Crossing Middle School beginning with the 2021-2022 school year. Students whose zone change moved them to Keefer Crossing Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year would be notified by letter early in the spring semester.

High School Zone Proposal

The proposed change to high school zones incorporates the district’s third comprehensive high school scheduled to open for the 2022-23 school year. Currently, the plan is for this school to open with freshmen only in year one.

Student Impact

Keefer Crossing Middle School students would continue to be zoned to attend New Caney High School.
New Caney Middle School students would be zoned to attend Porter High School. Students currently attending New Caney Middle would be impacted as described above.

White Oak Middle School students would continue to be zoned to attend Porter High School.
Woodridge Forest Middle School students would be zoned to attend Comprehensive High School #3. Students attending Woodridge Forest currently in the 7th grade and below would be zoned to attend the district’s third comprehensive high school scheduled to open for the 2022-23 school year. Students currently in 8th grade will attend Porter High School.

Makes complete sense, except on Thursdays when the 3 is silent.
