The first Fall Extravaganza was held in 2002 when the EMCID complex first opened, becoming a community favorite ever since.
This year's Fall Extravaganza will be held at the EMCID complex building located at 21575 U.S. Highway 59 in New Caney from 5-8 p.m.
"This is a great event for the whole family," said Sandy Seelye, EMCID special events coordinator. "We are always excited about the Fall Extravaganza because of all the great costumes, activities and everyone has a great time."
Regarding the costume contest, participants must register between 5-7 p.m. and the winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m.; guests do not have to be present to win. For those dressed in costume, there are several age categories including one month-to-3- year-olds, 4-8 years old and 9-14 years old, and there will be first, second and third place winners in each category. Winners will receive gift cards to Walmart.
In addition to the costume contest, guests will have the chance to enjoy carnival rides like the Ferris wheel, a scarecrow on stilts, a strolling magician, balloon artists, face painting, a juggler dressed as the Addams Family character, "Lurch;" vendors handing out candy, a wax hands station and a favorite from last year, a living pumpkin patch.
"Everyone really enjoyed the living pumpkin patch which is pumpkins that are like puppets and will speak with our guests," said Seelye.
The EMCID Fall Extravaganza will also feature a petting zoo, camel and pony rides, a hula hoop contest, dancing, video games and a chance to support local school organizations who will be on hand to sell drinks and snacks to benefit their groups.
"We encourage our community to come out and enjoy a fun evening to kick off the fall," added Seelye.
