For the third year, the festival, organized by the East Montgomery County Improvement District, will provide activities for the whole family at the Valley Ranch Town Center in New Caney on Oct. 6.

The festival starts at 2 p.m. and ends with a firework show starting at 7:45 p.m.

"The first year we held this festival, we hosted it in January,...but the weather was so windy and cold that we decided to move it to October," said Kelley Mattlage, chief communications officer for EMCID. "This year we have doubled the amount of snow slides and we have a snow maze. We are bringing in approximately 130,000 lbs. of ice that will be transformed into snow and sprayed onto slides and the ground to make it like a winter wonderland and for snow sledding."

The festival will also boast a synthetic ice-skating rink where guests will be able to experience all the fun of ice skating, but without getting wet or cold if they fall.

To bring a little heat to the festival, the Sangre Del Sol fire performers, who were a big hit with the crowds last year, will perform for three different shows throughout the day.

"Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the Sangre Del Sol performances last year," said Mattlage. "We had guests waiting for their next show which is why we brought them back."

In addition to the fire performers, there will be a BMX bike show, animals, amusement rides, games, face painting, vendors and food truck vendors including the Refill Station, Taco Flores, the Burger Boss, Fried Goodness, Not So Naughty Crepes, Roadside Sweets and Eats, Top Hat Catering and TX Brain Freeze.

New to this year's East Texas Fire & Ice Festival are the Houston Disc and Dog Tricks show and Ice Wars - a battle between two ice carvers who use chainsaws to create their art work.

The East Texas Fire & Ice Festival caps off with a fireworks show at 7:45 p.m. produced by Celestial Displays.

"Everything is free with the exception of what you buy from vendors," said Mattlage. "We bring new things every year to the Fire & Ice Festival. We're excited to have the community come out and joins us for a fun event."
