The kids were so much more confident and articulate when discussing the Super Bowl vs. when they were asked questions about our government.

Are they uninformed, hesitant to show bias, or don't want to appear geeky?

Either way, I think they are all lovely young men and women and thanks for sharing! Emoticon

I'm thinking a lot more American history should be taught and maybe some geography since my 15 year old great niece didn't know that Ohio was a state or even how many states are in the U.S..

@Sharonsand : Yes, American people (especially young adults) are so misinformed about our history - especially world history. I don't think they are being taught because I didn't know that the Irish people were indentured slaves and shipped to other parts of the world as slaves until I was grown and googled it myself after a tip I received from a friend - who - out of curiosity googled it themselves.

What happened to social studies? Is it no longer a requirement? Replaced with "Entitlement 101" perhaps? Or maybe "Understanding Gender Identification"?

There are so many dark parts of history like the Irish slavery but there are great and heroic moments like the writing of the Star Spangled banner. The flag flew because as one flag holder died, another replaced them to hold the flag so it would not be brought down. Bodies piled up to keep the Star Spangled banner flying. Bravery and sacrifice are what made this nation great and now greed and hatred are trying to take her down. Our children need to know the amazing history that created the greatest nation in the history of the world. This is how they will destroy us by not teaching history.

I'm not sure who decides what should be taught to our children or what is important for our children to know. You can't make history go away because a person does not want it to be known - for instance - removing statues that they don't agree with. History is history and it needs to be remembered or it will be repeated again and again. I recommend the movie "Brave Hearts". Historical movies may not be exactly as it happened but it gives you a sense that people tried to hide what they don't want to know.

Historical movies that don't tell it exactly how it happened drive me nuts for some reason. If I know about the subject, I keep thinking in my head, "No...no they found evidence otherwise". I best stick to a good documentary Emoticon

If we can get even a fraction of our history in the minds of our children through any means, it may open them up to wanting to know more whether through an entertaining movie or a documentary. The "powers that be" are bent on total destruction of the nation. Beware people. Deceit is afoot in our government and our media. Seek out the truth on your own. You sure won't find it on the news.
