Man Found Deceased After Standoff in New Caney

On April 14, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 19000 block of FM 1485 in New Caney following a report involving a bail bondsman attempting to contact a male subject.
According to authorities, the subject opened the door of his residence armed with a pistol and refused to surrender. The bail bondsman contacted law enforcement, and deputies arrived on scene. The suspect then barricaded himself inside a camper trailer and did not comply with commands.
Investigators determined the suspect had two active felony warrants out of Lavaca County. Due to the location within a densely populated RV park, additional resources were requested, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and Precinct 1 Constable’s Office Mental Health Unit.
After several hours of negotiations, the suspect remained noncompliant. SWAT officers entered the residence and located the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were initiated, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The individual was identified as 66-year-old David Dobson of New Caney.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
