@Cbear : I remember it well. I was stationed on Guam at the time. My wife and I took a 10-day trip to visit Japan. We stayed in a fancy hotel in Tokyo and watched the moon landing on TV and listened to it on Armed Forces Radio. In those days the yen was 360 to the dollar, and you could take a taxi anywhere in Tokyo for less than a buck. Language was our biggest stumbling block. When we wanted to visit some attraction (Tokyo Tower or the Imperial Palace) we'd have the concierge write the destination in Japanese on a piece of paper that we could give to the taxi driver. We realized quickly that we also needed the name of the hotel written in Japanese so we could catch a ride back to home base. The hotel had a breakfast buffet. The coffee urn handle had English instructions: "Open/Crose"The most "shocking" part of the trip was the men's room at the Osaka airport. There was a urinal trough against one wall. The toilet "stalls" were simple fixtures that looked like a urinal mounted flush (no pun intended) into the floor in the center of the room. You'd squat over it to do your business. When finished a young lady attendant would hand you a wash cloth and a towel.I haven't been back to Japan since. I suspect things may have changed a bit.

The moon landing always hits a sore sport for me. We were living in Henderson, TX. DH was managing a Dairy Queen. I was usually there whenever he was. There was a service station another website, and the young man who ran it and my DH became buddies. So he invites DH to join him to watch the moon landing on tv, while I got to hang out with teen employees at the DQ. 🙃
