Driver Arrested After Incident Near Northpark Plaza Drive and Hwy. 59

A driver was taken into custody early Thursday, May 14, after allegedly accelerating his vehicle toward a Precinct 4 deputy during a traffic stop near Northpark Plaza Drive and U.S. Highway 59.
According to authorities, the deputy initiated the stop for a traffic violation. While making contact with the driver, the suspect allegedly accelerated the vehicle directly toward the deputy and the deputy's patrol car, nearly striking both.
Deputies pursued the vehicle and were able to take the driver into custody a short time later without further incident.
The driver is now facing charges of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant with a Deadly Weapon and Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle.
