On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 2:15 AM, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle that was parked on the side of U.S. Highway 59 at McCleskey Road in New Caney. Deputies began to investigate and discovered that the vehicle, a four-door, 2008, GMC Acadia, was reported stolen by the Houston Police Department.

Deputies detained the sole occupant, 36-year-old James Riley of Kingwood.

As Deputies detained Riley, they located a black semi-automatic pistol in the front waistband of his pants. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Deputies located several pieces of property that were believed to be stolen.

Detectives are still investigating the origin of the items discovered.

Deputies found that Riley is wanted by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Pardon and Parole for his original charges of burglary of a habitation. Riley was transported to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Jail and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson added, “This is a great example of the professionalism and diligence that we expect from our Deputies and I couldn’t be prouder of the results of their excellent police work.”
