Constable Mark Herman's Office has Tips for National Preparedness Month

Loading Image...

September is National Preparedness Month, and over the next few weeks, Constable Mark Herman's Office will be sharing tips on how you and your family can prepare for disasters.

We know disasters are often sudden, and could result in catastrophic damage - or worse, loss of life. As part of our commitment to keeping this community safe ahead of, during, and after an emergency or natural disaster, please follow our safety tips.

-Check your insurance coverage and review the Document and Insure Property guide

-Keep some cash on hand in case of emergencies, since ATMs and credit card readers won’t always be available. Cash can help pay for immediate expenses like lodging, food and gas.

-Set aside a small amount from each paycheck to go into your savings account.

-Most homeowners’ and renters’ insurance does not cover flood damage. Learn more about flood insurance at FloodSmart.gov

-Snap photos of important documents and personal belongings to help you quickly file an insurance claim after a flood.

-30 Days: The number of days it takes for most flood insurance policies to go into effect. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

-What important documents should you have for an emergency? Download the Emergency Financial First Aid Kit, which will walk you through the planning process: go.usa.gov/xypkQ

Be ready!

Yes, flood insurance takes 30 days to go into effect. I've also seen flooding to building in Houston area in every month of the year, so you're better to always be covered and make sure your neighbors and friends are
