Community Helping The Community
The Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD), first responders, local businesses and citizens all got together yesterday to help improve life for a local couple via the County's Paramedicine Program.
The MCHD Community Paramedicine Program was established to assist the underserved of the county by offering help to those who use the 911 system regularly for preventable conditions. This frees up ambulance calls for high-risk emergencies.
Paramedic/Organizer/Social Worker/Hero/All Around Great Person - Angie Hoffart said that the program focuses on helping residents of Montgomery County find the resources they need when they don't qualify for certain benefits.
"This particular patient needed a ramp to help him get out of the house to go to doctor appointments and pick up prescriptions," said Hoffart. "He and his wife have actually both fallen trying to leave their home, so the only way for him to get regular treatment was by calling 9-1-1. So we 'beat the streets' to ask local businesses and other county agencies to help."
And help they did! Academy provided water and some labor from their New Caney store, and Home Depot in Porter donated the wood. Whataburger was in charge of breakfast for all the workers, and Commissioner Clark sent out out dumpsters for the cleanup. Other donations came from Texas T's and Vinyl, Freddy's Taco Shack, and Conroe Regional Medical Center.
Also, countless volunteers from local agencies donated their sweat and muscle to put this ramp together fairly quickly. Members of the Pct. 4 Constables Office, Porter Fire Department, and MCHD all carried supplies, swung a hammer, cut wood, etc.. to get the job done.
"More often than not, our contact with the public comes when we either make an arrest or are responding to a call for service," said Constable Rowdy Hayden. "This is a great way to get out in the community and meet people outside of our normal scope of work."
A tip-of-the-cap to everyone involved yesterday. I know some said it was no big deal and they were happy to do it...But I guarantee it's a HUGE deal to that couple. Kudos to y'all!!!
