New Caney Paper Products Plant Nears Opening as Residents Raise Environmental Questions A major new paper products manufacturing facility is nearing completion in New Caney, with GCP Paper USA expected to begin operations towards November or December. Equipment is already being moved into the approximately 566,000-square-foot plant at 19685 Emerald Lane in the East Montgomery County Industrial Park. The roughly $38.3 million dollar facility will manufacture and distribute products including toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and other paper goods. About 250 jobs are expected to be created once the plant is operational. GCP has also committed to hiring a significant portion of its workforce locally as part of its agreement with EMCID. The project has recently generated discussion on the Kingwood .com forums, where residents have raised questions about possible odors and the potential long-term effects of paper manufacturing on air and water quality. Other residents pointed to the economic benefit of hundreds of new jobs. What do you think about this new factory coming to New Caney?

I still remember the smell of the paper plant near Galena Park back in the 70s. I sure hope it's nothing like that.
