New Caney: Former Montgomery County Detention Officer Charged with Assaulting an Inmate
A former Montgomery County Jail detention officer has been arrested and charged following an alleged assault involving an inmate, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. MCSO said 27-year-old Miguel Cortez-Gonzales allegedly assaulted a 25-year-old inmate while working as a detention officer on July 24th. Authorities said the inmate suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment.
The sheriff's office launched an internal investigation, while detectives conducted a separate criminal investigation into the incident. Cortez-Gonzales was arrested on August 7th and charged with Violation of Civil Rights of a Person in Custody, a felony.
An arrest and charge are allegations, and the case will proceed through the legal process.
