Remains Believed to Be Missing New Caney Woman Maria Ortiz Found Near Her Home The search for 58-year-old Maria Ortiz has come to a heartbreaking end after human remains believed to be hers were found yesterday, August 9th in a wooded area near her New Caney home, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Ortiz had been missing since July 20th after leaving the Oak Knoll area on foot. Her family had previously shared that she experienced memory and confusion issues and required regular supervision. MCSO said preliminary findings are consistent with the remains being those of Ortiz, but a definitive identification is expected to be made through dental records. Investigators said no foul play is currently suspected. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation, with preliminary information indicating she may have died of natural causes. The search for Maria involved MCSO, Texas Search and Rescue, Montgomery County Search and Rescue, Texas EquuSearch, family members, friends, volunteers and members of the community. Thank you to all of the volunteers that aided in the search these past weeks. Our deepest condolences go out to Maria's children, family and friends.
