It smacks of entitlement to me. It would be like me going in and dressing with skin tight clothing and being annoyed that they didn't like it. There are just things that are appropriate and are not appropriate for certain job situations.

My son mentioned getting his ears pierced when he was in college. I pointed out that might not be a good idea for a future teacher. He readily agreed - hadn't thought of that!
