My DDs want to go to the beach in May. They want a beach that has clear water.

How far down do you have to go to get that? Is Rockport clear?

I'm not sure - hope someone has an answer for you. Galveston has been reported to have blue water at times, but it's rare.

@Bloom : We've been to Galveston and enjoyed it. DD was hoping to learn more about the really clear beaches that she's heard of that must be a bit farther down. Maybe someone on here will know. Thank you!

@Bloom : The online pictures of that river are amazing!! Wow!

That's further than they wanted to drive, though. They are going with some friends and the friends' father wants them to not be gone overnight.

I understand. I just thought of that when when you mentioned clear water. Former friends (they both have passed) used to have a second home there, and loved the area. We drove through a few years ago, and I can see why. We had to go wading - the water was so clear you could see the bottom.

We drove through a few years ago, and I can see why. We had to go wading - the water was so clear you could see the bottom.

@Cbear : We were there years ago, but I don't remember the clarity of the water. It was freezing - literally - it was that year that Texas froze.

@botanylover : We go to South Padre Island or Port Aransas. They both have clearer water than Galveston. We go once a year for a week. Port Aransas not as big as SPI, so more small town feel.

Going east to AL or FL panhandle is best for clear, good water. Otherwise, in TX you've got to head to South Padre, but it isn't as good but it's much better than here

@Jt88888888 : Oh I totally agree but I wan't sure that the OP would want to go that far. Starting in Alabama all the way to Clearwater the beaches are white and turquoise water. Love Destin!
