Million Dollar Splash Pads?
I was reading the EMCID newsletter recently and one part stuck out at me: Paraphrasing, it said that EMCID had spent one million dollars of our tax dollars for the two recently built Splash Pads in Splendora and Roman Forest.
This left me dumbfounded. Splash pads are nice for kids and all, but how did we spend half a million dollars each for these? (and that doesn't even include the cost of the land) From what I can tell the EMCID board voted unanimously in approval of the project.
To put it into perspective, you could buy the land and build my house 3x times over, for the cost of just one of those Splash Pads. ($166k house x 3 => $500k)
I did a little research and Kraftsman, the company contracted to build the Splash Pads, has apparently been selling them in roughly the same price range to other municipalities, so I don't see any evidence that EMCID was paying more than other towns, but dang! Kraftsman must be making some serious profit on these things.
Have you taken your kids to the splash pads in Splendora or Roman Forest yet?
Did you realize they cost half a million dollars each?
Does anyone want to go in to the Splash Pad building business with me?
