New Caney Events - Coffee With The Constable
In case you missed it,
Constable Rowdy Hayden and crew held a 'Coffee With The Constable' event Wednesday morning at Overall's in New Caney.
There was a large group of people in attendance throughout the morning. Some were in and out, but most of them stayed the entire time. Constable Hayden and several of his Deputies chatted with EMC citizens about their concerns, received tips on crimes, answered general law enforcement questions and even discussed the weather.
"That's what's great about this event," said Kevin, a local resident in attendance. "They're not preaching the law at us or anything like that...They're chatting and listening, just like we're old friends or neighbors. I learned a lot today, and I'm planning on attending all of these in the future!"
Constable Hayden says he plans on having more of these this year than last. They will be held at different venues throughout EMC.
The morning wasn't all coffee and chitchat either. As I was talking with Rookie Deputy (and all around nice guy) Zach Beaty, his radio went off. Shortly after, he and K9 Deputy Bullinger both rushed out the door on a call.
It turns out they were assisting Splendora PD and several other agencies with a suspect search in a wooded area near Hwy 59 and FM 2090. A Crime Stoppers Featured Felon had ran from officers on foot after he had fled from a traffic stop in his vehicle. Jaret Thorndyke (22, Splendora) is now in Custody.
Nice job, fellas!
In my opinion, Coffee With The Constable is a wonderful idea and should happen as often as possible. The interaction between citizens and deputies in a relaxed setting should prove to be most beneficial.
See y'all at the next one!
