Grand Parkway Ready For Next Phase

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has selected Grand Parkway Infrastructure, whose equity members include Ferrovial Agroman US, Granite Construction Co. and Webber, LLC, to serve as the design-builder to develop, design, construct and maintain approximately 44 miles of SH 99/Grand Parkway Segments H, I-1 and I-2 in Chambers, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery Counties. This toll-lane project begins at US 59 and connects to the existing I-2A portion, continuing on to SH 146 to ultimately complete the northeast segments of the 180-mile Grand Parkway loop.

Grand Parkway Infrastructure, the selected design-builder, will build Segments H and I-1, a new tolled two-lane controlled access facility, with intermittent four-lane sections for passing from US 59 North to I-10 East (approximately 38 miles); Segment I-2 which includes four additional toll lanes from FM 1405 to SH 146 for approximately six miles; and upgrade the tolling equipment of the existing tolled four-lane facility from IH 10 East to FM 1405.

“Development of the Grand Parkway is an important priority for the Houston area and the state of Texas. It is an opportunity to offer alternate routes for motorists who travel into and around the greater Houston area,” said Quincy Allen, TxDOT Houston District Engineer. “Constructing this outer loop system provides motorists more direct travel options for the movement of goods, people and services to, through and around the region while keeping them from going into the core of the Houston area.”

The construction work will begin in early 2018 and is scheduled to be substantially complete in early 2022.

“We’re looking forward to this project getting off the ground soon,” said Tucker Ferguson, TxDOT Beaumont District Engineer. “With Chambers and Liberty Counties steadily growing, this will be a great asset to not only the communities but to local industry.”

So very very sad this is happening in our QUIET, RURAL area. People live here to enjoy serenity and tranquility, country life, a break from the rat race of Houston proper, and it's being brought to our front door. Literally. I LOVE my home, my neighbors, the wildlife in the woods. Looks like my family will be moving farther out.

That's a negative attitude. Happy to see the likes of you move further away.

Yep. You're the type of people I want to get away from. How do you think it is negative that I want to live in peace and quiet? I LOVE this rural area, and due to folks like you, it will soon be no trees, and all concrete.

I'm a native Texas girl. I grew up in the (years ago) small town of Magnolia, TX.
I've watched the growth and development of The Woodlands (I remember when it was just a two-lane highway not much there at all).
It's kind of humorous to have a negative attitude towards the growth and expansion of our city and surrounding areas. It's inevitable.
In case no one has noticed, there's been a massive population explosion and we should be thankful to live in a thriving economic city such as Houston and it's surrounding areas.
With the growth and development, first of all -
Are the people of New Caney unaware how many trailer park, mobile homes are in the area? Maybe it's time to air up those tires and roll your houses out farther.
Are you honestly blaming "all the crime" is coming from the new comers?
I find that quite ridiculous to not realize the crime has been there, crime is always lurking around - there will always be good vs. bad
And I hope to see more good moving in the area - to push out the bad.
I hope to see positive development and I look forward to change what has always been regarded as a hillbilly, Podunk town into a better tune rather than the Deliverance banjo music themed song.
I am a new comer. I lived downtown for most of my adult life and I chose to move farther out because the cost to buy anything central is outrageous.
I chose to put my money in this newly developing area.
I am a professional, single woman, with no kids and I have great aspirations to see this area thrive and develop.
I hope more like-minded people such as myself are coming to take over! :-)

The reason most of us long time residences have been out here is that we did not want to put up with such uppity attitudes as your displaying here.
Professionalism does not mean allow the put downs your trying to deliver. It is much better to keep such thoughts inside yourself, then you would be more professional.
Please consider your comments. We do not need this site to be one of trash talk.

Being professional also involves the ability to hold an intellectual conversation with capabilities to accept constructive criticism and not wear such feelings on ones sleeves. Funny the way that is viewed as being "uppity"
I am simply replying to people here who seem to be placing blame for crime and placing blame for the growth and expansion of the community, the growth and expansion of this city and surrounding areas.
I grew up here - I'm aware of being a long time resident.
Growth and expansion is inevitable. Enjoy the gains on real estate.
Seems there's a few on here whining about the new coming growth as if they're going to stop it.
Why not embrace it with positive ideas that will contribute to developing a healthy, happy community.

I get both sides of the discussion. On one hand, my property value is about jump. on the other hand so is my property tax. On one hand we will have access to all sorts of retail much closer, on the other hand that means a lot more traffic. On one hand we will get better utilities(my internet isn't much better then dial up!) on the other hand that means more construction. We moved to the greater Houston area many years ago because of the job opportunities and the ability to affordably raise a family and I am so grateful to Houston and it's surrounding area's for that gift. I do value small town Texas(which I consider New Caney and Porter ) and am terribly sad to see that small town feel disappear. I am very hopeful that many of the great folks that made this community appealing to us(we we were done with subdivision lifestyles) will stay and make this a terrific area, it would be amazing if we could have diversity and not just cookie cutter living. I love the locals and the newbies, and hope the newbies realize the guns, cows and chickens stay. :-)

Heck yea, I have a shotgun and a shovel! Emoticon
I grew up in Magnolia and I have witnessed the growth of a small town.
I understand the aches of seeing a small town grow up, but there really isn't much other space to expand but the outskirts.

Agreed. My wife and I plan on moving further north as well, although we'll probably have to wait until our teenagers finishing moving out. We both grew up in Porter, and although the additional fast-food places and such are convenient, it's definitely lost a lot of the qualities that made it such a nice place to live.

People who have only moved out here in the past 10 years or so just don't understand what the area has lost, and probably never will.

@Benea
Your words that do not follow a constructive criticism , they are just a put down to some that may never have found the opportunities that you had to make the money to live in suburbia.
This definitely is and has been a low income area that is now being taken over by those of you that want out of Houston. We could also look at this as instead of the existing people relocating why did you not find some thing further out?
"Are the people of New Caney unaware how many trailer park, mobile homes are in the area? Maybe it's time to air up those tires and roll your houses out farther."

Then tell me how you consider this statement as constructive? "Hillbilly, Podunk town"
"I hope to see positive development and I look forward to change what has always been regarded as a hillbilly, Podunk town into a better tune rather than the Deliverance banjo music themed song. "

I find nothing in that demeanor of statements that is professional.
My opinion only but hope this helps your future conversations on here.

The statements were written with a sense of humor.
I'm not going to apologize for offending those who lack one.
