County Judge Doyal Discusses 2016

County Judge Craig Doyal reflected on the county’s accomplishments this past year at the final Commissioners Court meeting of 2016.

He highlighted several successes for the county:

- Montgomery County has become the 7th fastest growing county of its size in the nation
- Montgomery County earned a AAA credit rating this year from Moody’s – one of only 10 counties in Texas to achieve that distinction, which will reduce borrowing costs for taxpayers when the county issues debt
- The county cut its tax rate by one penny...the 5th tax cut the county has offered over the past decade
- For the 2nd year in a row, the county was able to set aside capital improvement funds so the county can pursue a “pay as you go” approach on many county building projects, again saving taxpayer dollars
- Successfully passed a $280 million road bond election, and many projects are now under way.
- Hired a new, professional animal shelter director, Charles Jackson
- Kept its spending lowest of other comparable local governments in the region. Compared with other local governments, the county spends half or less per resident.

“I know this last year we’ve seen a lot of negative talk and insinuations; I would hope people will take a little pride in Montgomery County in 2017, and look at the positives,” Judge Doyal told the audience at the final Commissioners Court meeting.

“This is a great place to raise your family and build your business. We see that each and every day as people come, because they recognize this is truly one of the premiere counties in the state of Texas,” he said.

“I am proud of what this court has done, I’m proud of the job we’ve been able to accomplish addressing county issues in a rapidly growing county, and I look forward to a great 2017.”
