Summary and Objectives:
The primary function of a metal machine helper is to assist with the set-up and operation of machines that cut, shape, and form metal materials.
As a metal machine helper, you will be responsible for following all safety procedures and regulations to prevent accidents or injuries.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Assist with the machine set-up according to specifications.
• Insert material into machine, manually or with a hoist.
• Monitor machine for unusual sound or vibration and observe the product it makes.
• Following guidance from operator, adjust the machine’s speeds and controls during production.
• Periodic inspection of product according to specifications.
• If problem is detected, assist operator in making necessary adjustments or repairs.
• Document production numbers and any relevant information for inventory reports.
• Daily cleaning of work area.
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Entry-level work experience; on-the-job training provided.
Knowledge and Skills
• Have a good understanding of how the machine and its parts work.
• Strong dexterity skills for precise hand movements.
• Ability to use programmable devices.
• Knowledgeable in operating forklift, certification preferred.
• Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations.
Physical Demands
• Must be able to stand for long periods and perform repetitive work.
• Ability to guide and load heavy and bulky parts and materials into machine.
• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and adjust body position to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season.
