As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week NewCaney.com sits down with Dr. Lewis M. Clark of Clark Chiropractic & Wellness.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?

After graduation in 1992, I immediately opened my practice in Porter, Texas. In 2016, we moved our practice to Kingwood, TX.

I believe that God entrusts each of my patients to me, and therefore it is my responsibility to minister to them physically, emotionally and spiritually. That is why I believe in constant and never ending improvement in technique in the art of chiropractic and wellness as well as a better understanding of human physiology in order to meet every person’s needs. The more knowledge and tools that I have in my tool bag the better chance I have of successfully completing the task.

This is why after 20 years of practice I am still continually learning and striving for a deeper understanding and better methods of functional neurology, functional nutrition and physiology as well as techniques and technology to improve wellness. Passion may be the best way to describe my practice. Passion from my staff dedicated to making you feel loved and special; passion from the finest selection of doctors to make you feel honored to be a member of their practice and who will truly do anything to get you better; passion and a feeling of purpose from the first time that you enter our office.

This passion gives hope even in the midst of questions, confusion, and lack of results previously. For me, this is what I believe to be the will of God for me to do with my life. God has called me to be a blessing to everyone that I can. Therefore my purpose and mission is to help as many people as I can in my lifetime — especially children. People often ask me why I see so many children, and I say that most of the problems I see in adults started when they were children. I believe that every person has been given a gift by God, an amazing body that is able to heal itself; therefore, I believe he uses me to do miraculous things. But I am only His vessel and He is the healer. I encourage everyone to open their minds and heart to God and to give their life to the Lord Jesus Christ. I did, and I have never regretted it.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
When I was 18 years old, my best friend’s dad, an attorney named Vernon Hankins said to me, “If I had it to do all over again, I’d be a chiropractor.”  That surprised and interested me.  My dad was getting great results from seeing a chiropractor, so I began to consider it and I had three goals for my career:
  • I wanted to work for myself
  • I wanted to help people
  • I wanted to be able to provide for my family.
I felt that chiropractic offered an opportunity for all three of these things.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
The things I’m most proud of are the patients and friends that we’ve made over the years, their health improvements, their loyalty and friendship to our practice, and the way the community has really embraced our vision of overall health and wellness.
The thing that we’re known for is delivering a complete healing experience, using chiropractic, nutrition, and brain based therapy to get the best results--especially for difficult conditions.  We’ve been blessed to have patients from literally all over the world:  from Austria and Australia and many states in the U.S.  We also have patients commonly travel from a couple hours distance or more to see us because of the complete programs that we offer.

I think the thing that separates our office from the competition is the ability to handle difficult neurologic and chronic conditions and to be able to use things like neurofeedback, brainbased therapy, and nutrition along with chiropractic to get results when other programs and other protocols haven’t’ worked.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
Without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite part is dealing with the people and seeing their lives change, and seeing them get their quality of life back and being able to do whatever it is they want to do, whether it’s get back out on the golf course, play with their grandkids, or sit back through a church service. That’s the most enjoyable thing for me.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
We have a variety of patients in our office, but the thing we’re most known for is dealing with chronic conditions, such as chronic pain syndromes including chronic knee pain, shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder and rotator cuff syndromes.  We also deal with peripheral neuropathy, difficult ADD/ADHD, thyroid, and diabetic conditions.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
Personally, I’ve been extremely blessed to be a chiropractor for now over 24 years, and I enjoy what I do tremendously.  However, I enjoy even more so, spending time with my wife Rhonda, our 5 kids, and our 7 grandkids that are amazing, as all grandkids are, I’m sure.

But also, the thing that means the most to me is my relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Everything that we do in our practice revolves around Him. Not only to help people but to honor my God and my Lord Jesus Christ.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?

Our business is continuing to grow and improve in our treatment protocols and the types of cases we work with.  I also believe in continuing education. I am personally enrolled in functional neurology seminars as well as the Carrick Institute.  In addition, I continue my nutritional studies through Apex Energetics and other companies.

We are also expanding our staff and the knowledge within our staff.  One of the additions to our office, Dr. Omid Sehat, is a tremendous asset to our practice in his ability to help patients with nutritional counseling as well as neurologic and chiropractic treatments.

For our future, we see adding more people to our staff and continuing to advance in the types of treatments that we deliver.
