NCISD Dream Team Invited To San Antonio
Dream Team members Chris Torres, Josh Hignight, Joey Applegate and Billy Elliott will be speakers (along with adviser Jim Becka) at the upcoming Texas Association of Journalism Educators (TAJE) Fall Fiesta conference in San Antonio, Oct. 16.
These students, along with their advisors, manage one of the largest high school stadium video screen, and high school ribbon screen in the United States.
Hignight and Elliott handle the stadium Tricaster, which mixes four cameras, a video player, audio, and ribbon screen together for the giant screen. Torres manages the field video team, which looks at the sports action from the field, and produces videos for the big screen with Applegate and Hignight.
“This is a great opportunity for students from throughout Texas to learn how technology is being incorporated into sporting events,” Becka said. “People love sports and love to see the action on the big screen.”
Torres is also responsible for capturing aerial shots of the stadium with a new DJI Phantom drone.
“The new drone has amazing flying capabilities,” Torres said. “It also has amazing video quality and has the capability of getting the difficult shots.”
Teachers/advisers working with the Dream Team are New Caney ISD Video Director Stuart Stanley, Jim Becka and Santiago Acosta.
The Dream Team consists of approximately 20 students. Veteran Dream Team members handle the stadium equipment, while first year students shadow and observe.
Any New Caney High School student interested in the Dream Team should speak to Becka and Acosta about Dream Team requirements. Porter High School students interested in the Dream Team should speak with advisors James Longoria or Mihaela Stir.
