East Montgomery County - Land Of Opportunity
A modern land rush is going on to take advantage of the economic, demographic and lifestyle benefits available in Montgomery County − and East County is considered by many to be the emerging land of opportunity in the region.
That's the message from Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jim Clark in his keynote address to the North Houston Association, an apolitical membership organization focusing on environmental, transportation and economic development issues in the Montgomery and north Harris Counties.
"East county is a great place to live, work and grow," said Clark. "We currently have over $2 billion of economic development in the works and more to come. The economic outlook for our area is strong."
Montgomery County's current population of around 550,000 is projected to increase to 2.1 million by 2050, said Clark. The region is expected to continue to attract new businesses and opportunities and offer greater demographic diversity.
"Our world is changing around us," said Clark. "It's important that we prepare the infrastructure to accommodate the growth expected in population and economic investment."
Clark cited the Valley Ranch project, Grand Texas Theme Park and other development as key attractions to new residential and commercial investors. He also credited support from the Texas Department of Transportation for assisting in improving east-west mobility in the county.
"The Grand Parkway has reduced transportation time between East County and The Woodlands from over an hour to around 20 minutes," he said. "Improved mobility is going to help East County to continue to attract new business and new residents. The future is bright for East County."
Clark noted that much of the anticipated growth in the region is based on a positive business environment created specifically to attract new investment and infrastructure development to accommodate a surge in population and economic investment.
"Local government plays a key role in shaping the future of our community," said Clark. "I am committed to make Montgomery County and Precinct 4 a better place to live and work − today, tomorrow and beyond."
