The Texas Sawmill Festival This Weekend!
The Texas Sawmill Festival is a family-friendly community event, with live music, a BBQ cook-off (featuring 3 divisions: chicken, brisket, and ribs), a car show, and logging demonstrations and competitions. Almost 5,000 attendees are expected this year, and all are encourage to join in the fun by dressing for the time period. Blue jean overalls and straw hats, floral print dresses and pretty bonnets are all examples of the attire one might wear to the festival, or any outfit reminiscent of the time period (1880's-1940's). The festival will have a kid-zone, a rock wall, and a petting zoo. For those with a sweet tooth, fair foods will be abundantly available, including fried oreos and the traditional funnel cake. Five bands will provide live musical entertainment: The Weeds, the Phillip Griffin Band, Sundance Head, Jason Cassidy, and Billy Joe Shaver. There will also be plenty of craft vendors, educational booths, displayed time-period replicas, and lumberjack competitions (the starting of which will be signaled by the boom of a cannon).
Admission is free. Hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the Kid Fun Zone closing at 5:00 p.m. All proceeds from this event will go to the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
