When will the taxpayers of EMC receive anything more than hot air from the EMCID? For the last month I've stopped or driven by the proposed site of Grand Texas and Speedsportz Racing Park. According to the website, this site is approx. 1/2 mi. due West of 59 on the North side of 242. About a month ago, without looking at the website, I stopped at this site and looked around. I figured this had to be the place, it was the only land that had been cleared within 2 mi. of 59. From the looks of it, the new growth of pine trees from clearing seemed to be approx. 3 to 4 yrs. old. Within the fenceline (there is a locked gate with no trespassing signs), there was a trailer. a truck painted camo, a small storage container, a storage tank, and a big sign that was very eerily similar to the one that sat on the EarthQuest site for almost a decade before being removed with nothing but empty promises from the EMCID and a boatload of bond debt for the tax-paying residents of this county. You can tell this sign was created by the same conceptual artist and company. After 4 trips by this property, not one piece of heavy construction equipment has p been spotted nor one blade of grass been turned. In front of the fence was a construction board with a old permit for a retention pond and announcements for EMCID meetings from Oct. of last year.
What gives? The only other property around this piece of land within a half mile or more is property clearly marked with the same private property signs exept for the one piece of property directly across the truck stop announcing a new convenience store. Is this a sham perpetrated by a group of landowners to raise their property values? A lot of property changed hands and I'm quite sure at an inflated price when EarthQuest was announced at look what that did. Taxpayers of this county are waiting for earthmoving equipment to start rolling, EMCID, or has not enough of their taxpayer dollars been spent on $1,500.00 dinners at Chez Nous with those announcing plans to build these venues?
