The Greater East Montgomery County Chamber presents the Texas Sawmill Festival, October 1 at Bull Sallas Park in New Caney, from 10am-10pm with all admission and parking free.

The Texas Sawmill Festival has transformed itself into a major event with vendors of all types including food and drink found at festivals around the country, a Kids Zone to entertain the children, historical exhibits, and the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show -a show that has performed n the Canada exhibit at Epcot Center/Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Also at the festival for the first time in the Southwestern Region of the States, there will be high caliber Texas Lumberjack Championship.

Soon to be one of the premier events in the Greater North Houston area, the inaugural Texas Lumberjack Championships has competitors from New Hampshire, Vermont, West Virginia, Maine, North Carolina and Florida all hoping to win the combined purse of $25,000 from 12 events. The closest state with a similar competition is in West Virginia.

“We are excited to bring the championships to the Greater Houston area with over 4 million people in the market”, said Lee LeCaptain, of the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show. "We were here in June of 2015 and knew Texas would be THE place to have the competition”.

Many small businesses throughout the Chamber area have come together to each pay $1,000 to sponsor the event. Asking for smaller donations makes it easier for more entities to participate.

Local restaurants that participate will be paired up with non-profits to give some of their proceeds back to the organizations that they are partnered with for the event. Longhorn Steakhouse in Kingwood will be donating funds to Mission Northeast and Humble Area Assistance Ministries. The New Caney Educational Foundation will be getting needed funds for teachers from Fish Tales.

Project Graduation for all 3 high schools, (Splendora, New Caney, and Porter High School) will receive a portion of the monies collected from the raffle drawing. Costco, Academy, Sam’s Club, and Trinity Armory of Cleveland will all be donating large ticket items to be raffled off to attendees.

In addition to the championship lumberjack competition, there will be a Celebrity Ax Throwing competition, a Chainsaw Sculpture, kids tractor races, and wine/beer garden in the rodeo arena, and to end it all there will a Street Dance with Mark Linaburg performing DJ duties sponsored by Service Master.

Volunteers and vendors are still needed. Approximately 100 volunteers will be needed throughout the event for about 2 hour shifts to assist with tickets sales, timers for Tractor Races, Kids Zone, parking, and various other positions. All volunteers will be invited to a special appreciation Friday, September 30. Volunteer sign ups, vendor applications, and sponsorship information is available on the website www.TexasSawmillFestival.com/applications “The Texas Sawmill Festival and the Lumberjack Championships are going to be a great community event to support non-profits and our businesses that are experiencing growth in our area”, said Rick Hatcher, President of the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber”.

Come join the fun, be entertained, and know that you are helping local organizations at the Texas Sawmill Festival presented by the Greater EMC Chamber at Bull Sallas Park, Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 10 AM to 10 PM.
