EMCID Losing Parking Lot/Structures To 99Beginning Saturday, July 9, crews from Zachry-Odebrecht Parkway Builders will demolish land and structures that were seized by the Texas Department of Transportation in eminent domain proceedings against the East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) for the construction of the Grand Parkway (SH 99). This will affect traffic trying to enter or leave the EMCID Complex, parking and festivals.“Obviously this is a great concern to us, our tenants in the building, and thousands of community members who attend festivals and events at our Complex,” said Frank McCrady, President and CEO. “This means a third of our parking lot will be gone. That amounts to fewer parking spaces for patrons and less room for our festivals this fall.”EMCID’s annual Back to School Bash, which is held in the parking lot, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13. The free event features a backpack giveaway to students who are in kindergarten through eighth grade. The festival also includes rides, games, face painting and a petting zoo. Events Coordinator Sandy Seelye is planning to accommodate the changes to the parking lot. “With limited space, we are working on a program to ensure that our community festivals and events, like the Back to School Bash and Fall Extravaganza, are up to the standards that everyone has come to expect,” said Selye. The Fall Extravaganza will be held Thursday, October 27.McCrady notified on Thursday the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Lone Star College – EMCID, Montgomery County Youth Services and Academy Sports + Outdoors, who is currently conducting interviews in the building for their new store at the Valley Ranch Town Center, about the plans for demolition.Visitors trying to get to the EMCID Complex should use the entrance to the R.B. Tullis Library.
